ars poetica

is not coming in the door from an early morning walk with a paused podcast in your ear about anonymous people’s experiences with paranormal activity and leaving a voice memo for your sister-cousin because she’s clairvoyant and needs to listen to this last story about the woman who brought spirits home with her from Vietnam and Larry is texting you the waving hand emoji again and you’re hungry but you have to pee and your nose is running because the ragweed is still ragweeding so you take the phone with you to the bathroom because there is a tiny number 5 inside of a little red round circle hovering over the blue + white envelope icon and as you click + sit to pee you think yes-this is exactly not it-not it at all and when you stand back up you don’t flush the phone but you think about running it under cold water while washing your hands but you decide to type this on it first

about this poem

an anti-ars poetic of sorts, this one was fun and an actual depiction of a adequately over-stimulated two minutes I experienced earlier this week ~ simply put ars poetic means a poem about a poem or as my teacher Katharine Kaufman so smartly explained it (and I’m paraphrasing) : “and ars poetic is a poem that looks in the mirror and sees itself” ~ i love that image! anyway, I’ve written one ars poetic before it’s here on my site, it’s called FOLDS if you wanna check it out & as always, I appreciate you being here! xo, s.

I just caught up on your September poetry, I was looking for the right time to absorb your words while in a semi hectic vacation mode. It’s a pleasure to read your work while having a cappuccino before leaving to our next stop.

  2. I love so much about this- especially how the form follows the poem…no punctuation, starting mid-sentence from the title and the rush down the page, as we the readers are catapulted right alongside the poet. And the details, the details…made me laugh.
