notes to nowhere

  1. oil change in honda 14,000 miles
  1. the feeling of turning my body to triangles & half-moons while the earth spins air and nature all around me
  1. the shame wasn’t in the sound the cookie jar made when i lifted its lid. the shame was in the wanting of what was inside of the jar. in taking the risk in the first place. in lifting the lid and finding snickerdoodles where i’d wished for chocolate chip or worse yet, finding nothing at all
  1. lee, one difference with disorganized attachment is the person’s desire to attach securely with people. this is different than avoidant or anxious attachment styles. people with a disorganized attachment type want to be close with their people, but their bodies and nervous systems continue to give them feedback that does not support this desire as a fruitful or safe endeavor.
  1. if one more white woman over the age of 40 refers to her vagina as her “private parts” or “down there” i am going to scream. and before you ask, no i’m not giving the women under 40 a pass, i just can’t be certain they’ve arrived at the developmental milestone of midlife yet; their chrysalis may still be on its way and in that case, they may still have some time yet. also i want to make clear while i believe the vagina to be the most magical portal between worlds, i’m not saying there is anything “public” about your vagina, and also, i get it. i’ve studied language and people long enough to know, it’s not a word people love to say, ‘vagina’ but when we don’t call things (especially our body parts) by their proper names (at least the majority of the time) we run the risk of creating & contributing to a whole subtext of misinformation and misogyny.

about this work

feeling very grateful for last week’s writing prompt: “find some notes” (these were in my notes app), “rewriting is writing”, “stay close to yourself”. I love how seemingly random these notes looked and the surprise of how connected they really are as a piece of writing, experienced through the act of writing and rewriting. thanks for reading ! xo,s

  1. love the idea of this prompt and your actual notes even more! Also….. VAAAAGINAAAAAAAA! It’s a wonderful, magical word. This reminds me to go reread The Vagina Monologues again and again. And then again. Xo
